The 3 founders of 3Beaches met in 2014 at the Australian Institute of Creative Design. Sonya Romeo was lecturing in interior and surface design and the other two co-founders were her students. While working on property development, interior and surface design projects, the 3 co-founders discovered the textile market was lacking bespoke performance fabrics suitable for outdoor applications. Two of the co-founders, Sonya Romeo and Niamh Brennan, designed the artwork for what would eventually become the Coast Collection.

In its infancy, the Coast Collection was printed onto fabric base cloths of various compositions via a process called dye sublimation. After testing these printed fabrics in the elements, it was clear they could not withstand Australia’s harsh outdoor climate. The ethos of 3Beaches is to produce stylish products of uncompromised excellence.   In their quest for quality and durability, 3Beaches aligned themselves with the brand Sunbrella, the world leader in performance fabrics and the Coast Collection was then woven with the composition 100% Sunbrella acrylic.

Two of the original co-founders remain the owners and driving force behind 3Beaches. Sonya Romeo and Niamh Brennan have continued to collaborate with Sunbrella to curate and design further collections such as the soothing Cocoon Collection and the vibrant Jewel Collection. In addition to selling performance upholstery fabric by the metre and accessories to wholesale and trade customers, Sonya Romeo and Niamh Brennan have evolved the business to distribute other brands that have the same demand for excellence through the formation of The Textile & Design Studio (TT|DS).
